It was Ian Harte that opened the scoring after twelve minutes when he converted from the penalty spot. He repeated the feat seven minutes later. Mark Viduka made it 3-0 five minutes later with his first goal, before Michael Briges claimed a fourth a minute before Half-Time, but there was doubt whether it was an own goal. Viduka made it five in the fifty-fourth minute and also got the sixth and completed his hat-trick in the eighty-first minute before Alan Smith made it seven three minutes later. The home side managed a consolation goal in the final minute.
